Italian Sausage Peppers and Onions

One of the first dishes I really enjoyed cooking was this Italian sausage, peppers and onions. My sister and I love this recipe and appreciate that the dish comes out consistently no matter what kitchen you are cooking in!

Italian Sausage Peppers and Onions

Ingredients

  • 6 sweet and/or spicy sausages
  • 3 assorted peppers - red, yellow, green, orange - you decide!
  • 1 large yellow onion
  • 2 Tbsp salted butter
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 1 teaspoons of dried basil
  • 1 teaspoons of dried oregano
  • 1/4 cup white wine
  • Italian bread (as a side or to eat as a hero)

Directions

  1. Place the sausage in a large skillet over medium heat and brown on all sides
  2. Remove sausage from skillet and set aside
  3. Melt butter in the same skillet as step 1
  4. Stir in the yellow onion and garlic - cook 3 to 4 minutes
  5. Mix in peppers
  6. Season with basil and oregano
  7. Stir in white wine
  8. Continue to cook and stir until peppers and onions are tender
  9. Slice sausage While waiting for onions and peppers to cook
  10. Return sausage slices to skillet with the vegetables
  11. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer 15 minutes, or until sausage is heated through
